Frequently Asked Questions

Asthma is a disease that runs in the family, meaning it is inherited through genes. In this condition, people face difficulty in breathing, and at night, they may produce wheezing sounds while sleeping. Shortness of breath is a common symptom. To treat or control asthma, a combination of multiple medicines is used, including inhalers, anti-allergic drugs, and a small dose of steroids. It is important to note that the inhaler is the most essential treatment, as it directly reaches the airways, providing relief. Also, remember that medicines that directly enter the airways do not cause any harm

Remember, asthma has two types: one that is inherited through genes and another that is caused by smoking. To determine which type of asthma a patient has, we analyze their medical history. If the patient has a history of smoking, it indicates smoking-related asthma. The most important difference is seen in an X-ray—an asthmatic patient’s X-ray appears normal, while a smoker’s X-ray looks dirty. Additionally, this disease is also known as COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).

To control both types of asthma, a combination of multiple medicines is used. Before prescribing medication, a test called spirometry is conducted, which helps assess the severity of asthma. Based on the test results, medication is prescribed, with inhalers being the first line of treatment, followed by a small dose of steroids and antibiotics

There are two ways to check the lungs. If a basic examination is needed, an X-ray is performed. However, if a more detailed study is required, an HRCT chest scan is conducted. If further in-depth analysis is needed for a specific disease, a CT scan with contrast is performed
